Springfield, IL – The Prairie Fire had a much better day on the greens in Sunday’s second round of the Blueboy Invitational and placed seventh overall.
Knox opened the tournament, hosted by Illinois College at Piper Glen Golf Course, with a 382 on Saturday and ended it with a 362 for a 36 hole score of 744. The Prairie Fire finished 38 strokes back of fifth place IC.
Knox placed ahead of St. Louis University (764), Westminster College (788), and Blackburn College (810).
Junior James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora) matched his first round score of 83 with an 83 in the second round. Fenner’s two day total of 166 placed him 19th overall.
Sophomore Mackinzie Champman (Sheffield, IL, Annawan) shot a 91 on Sunday and finished at 183. Sophomore Ben Schlotter (Chambersburg, PA, Cumberland Valley Christian) improved by two strokes, from a first round score of 94 to a 92 in the second round, to end the tournament with a 186. Sophomore Matt Gordon (Elk Gove Village, IL, Elk Grove) shaved 17 strokes off his score on Saturday with a 96 on Sunday for a 209.
Knox plays its home course, Soangetaha Country Club, on April 26 in the first round of the Scot-Fire Invitational. The second round is the next day at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth.
The tournament is the last chance to tune up before the Midwest Conference Championships May 2-4 at Aldeen Golf Course in Rockford.
