ROUND #2
Monmouth, IL – The Prairie Fire had a top five individual finish at the Scot-Fire Invitational on Saturday.
Junior James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora) opened the tournament with a 76 on Friday at Soangetaha Country Club. He followed with a season-low 73 on Saturday at Gibson Woods Golf Course for a 36-hole score of 149.
Fenner tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard with Collin Slattery of Illinois Central College, who made up for a first round 78 with a 71 on Saturday, the second-lowest round of the day.
Millikin University won the team title by eight strokes over Illinois Central College (603-611). The Big Blue and ICC both shot a 298 in the second round, but Millikin led 305 to 313 going into Saturday’s action. The Monmouth College Red team (615) placed third, Carl Sandburg College (621) fourth, and Black Hawk College (626) fifth.
Knox had its lowest round of the season with a 344 on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to lift the team out of 12th place. The Prairie Fire ended the tournament with a score of 701.
Sophomore Ben Schlotter (Chambersburg, PA, Cumberland Valley Christian) followed up his season-low first round 83 with an 86 on Saturday for a 169. Sophomore Mackinzie Chapman (Sheffield, IL, Annawan) had his best round of the season on Saturday with an 86 after carding a 91 on Friday to finish at 181. Fellow sophomore Matt Gordon (Elk Gove Village, IL, Elk Grove) shot a 99 in the second round and concluded play with a 202.
Millikin’s Wes Hillen carded a 2-under 69 in round two to finish first individually at 143. Blake Mitchell of Iowa Wesleyan was the runner-up with a 145.
Next for Knox is the Midwest Conference Championships May 2 through 4 at Aldeen Golf Course in Rockford.

Galesburg, IL – A Prairie Fire men’s golfer is just two strokes out of first place after the opening round of the Scot-Fire Invite on Friday.
Junior James Fenner (East Peoria, IL, Metamora) fired a 76, which included a pair of birdies, in the first round at Soangetaha Country Club. He’s tied with four other golfers for sixth place overall.
Wes Hillen of Millikin University and Blake Mitchell of Iowa Wesleyan College are tied for the lead with 2-over par 74s. Three other golfers posted 75s and are one stroke back.
Fenner shot 38 on both the front and back nine. He birdied the par five #6 hole and the par four #13 hole. Fenner shot par on 10 holes, including two that gave the field the problems: #7 and #8. Golfers bogeyed or double-bogeyed the #8 hole 50 times and hole #7 on 47 occasions.
Millikin leads the team standings with a 305. Illinois Central College is next at 313 followed by Black Hawk College and Monmouth College Red at 314 and Carl Sandburg College at 315.
The Prairie Fire closed the first round in 12th place with a team score of 357.
Sophomore Ben Schlotter (Chambersburg, PA, Cumberland Valley Christian) shot an 83 for Knox. The other Prairie Fire golfers, sophomores Mackinzie Chapman (Sheffield, IL, Annawan) and Matt Gordon (Elk Gove Village, IL, Elk Grove), concluded Friday’s round at 95 and 103, respectively.
The second and final round of the tournament will be played at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. The golfers are scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
