Macomb, Ill. – The Prairie Fire fared particularly well in long distance and throwing events at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational.
Teams representing all levels of NCAA, NAIA, and junior college competed in the meet, hosted by Western Illinois University April 10-12. The Knox men's squad tallied 10 points and placed 12th out of the 13 teams that scored.
Sophomore
Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E Lee) placed fifth in the 10 K race in a time of 36:29.70 to put points on the board for the Prairie Fire. Sophomore
Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) and first-year
Joseph Gilmore (North Pole, AK, North Pole) also scored by placing seventh and eighth, respectively. Cole crossed the finish line in 37:11.75 followed by Gilmore in 37:58.39.
Senior
Weston Chenoweth (Canton, IL, Canton) and sophomore
Brennan McGlauchlen (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) both placed for Knox and established new top 10 all-time marks.
McGlauchlen was eighth in the shot put with his throw of 44' 3 1/2" while he recorded the ninth-longest hammer throw by an individual with a distance of 126' 1 1/4". Chenoweth's javelin throw of 148' 7 3/4" was good for eighth place and his hammer throw of 129' 5" ranks #5 on the all-time individual list for the event.
Two throwers for the Prairie Fire women's team set new all-time top 10 marks as well.
Junior
Nicolette Bridgeforth (Chicago, IL, Guerin Prep) threw the hammer 125' 11 1/2" to move into the #2 slots on the all-time performance and individual lists. First-year
Jessica Fritts (Scottsdale, AZ, Foothills Academy) now ranks #8 on the all-time individual list with her hammer throw of 92' 1".
Marquette University won the women's team title with 178 points. Augustana College won the men's title with 172.5 points.
The Knox track and field teams resume competition in the University of Dubuque Open on April 18.
