Distance Runners Fare Well at Monmouth

Five distance runners secure top five placements in last regular season meet

Monmouth, Ill. – Five Prairie Fire distance runners posted top five finishes at the Fighting Scots Open on Saturday at Monmouth College.

The Knox men's team placed ninth out of 11 with 22 points.  The Knox women's squad finished 11th with 6.5 points.

Sophomore Elizabeth Reyes (Oak Park, IL, Oak Park-River Forest) placed third in the women's 5000 meter race in 21:11.31.  Sophomore Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) was third in the men's 5K in 16:57.37 followed by fellow sophomore Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E Lee) in fourth in 17:07.95.

First-year Josh Tvrdy (Tucson, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) also scored a third place finish in the 3000 meter steeple chase.  He crossed the finish line in a personal-best time of 10:35.60, which ranks #7 on the Knox top 10 all-time individual list for the event.

Sophomore Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International) had the fifth top five finish for the Prairie Fire.  He place fifth in the 1500 meters in 4:13.75.  The time is a personal-best for Jere and ranks #10 on the top 10 all-time individual list.

The Knox men added an eighth place finish by senior Tim Worrell (Wataga, IL, ROWVA) in the discus.  His best throw of the day traveled 132' 2".  The Prairie Fire women's team scored as well with junior ShirJia Bielefeld (Weston, WI, DC Everest) tying for eighth place in the pole vault with a height of 8' 2 3/4" in the event.

Senior Adam Worden (Monee, IL, Crete-Monee) and junior Nicolette Bridgeforth (Chicago, IL, Guerin Prep) established new top 10 all-time marks at the meet.

Worden posted a hammer throw distance of 125' 11" that ranks #10 on the all-time individual list while Bridgeforth's shot put throw of 32' 6 1/2" is #10 on the all-time individual list for that event.

The meet marked the end of the regular season.  The Prairie Fire compete in the Midwest Conference Championships May 10-11 at Grinnell College.
