MONMOUTH, Illinois – The Prairie Fire swept the top three placements in the men's 5,000 meter race, inched closer to a new school record in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, and scored in five different field events at the Fighting Scot Open hosted by Monmouth College on Saturday.

The meet, while marking the end of the regular season for many participants, also provided an opportunity to tune up for the conference meet.

Sophomore Josh Tvrdy (Tucson, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 5K with his time of 16:26.36.  Junior Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) was second and junior Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E. Lee) placed third as Knox earned 24 points in the event.

First-year Frances Larsen (Anchorage, AK, West Anchorage) continues to move up the 3000 meter steeplechase all-time top 10 performance list.  She finished Saturday's race second in 12:50.92, a new personal best time that ranks as the #2 fastest on record in the event at Knox.  Larsen, competing in her first year of college track, already has three of the all-time top 10 performances in the 3K steeple.  Her best time to date is within 3.61 seconds of the school record set by Emma Swanson in 2012.

Senior ShirJia Bielefeld (Weston, WI, DC Everest) also secured a top five placement for the Prairie Fire.  She cleared 8' 2 ¾" in the pole vault for fourth place.

The Knox men's and women's teams both scored in the javelin behind sixth place throws from junior Brennan Mc Glauchlen (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) and sophomore Jessica Fritts (Scottsdale, AZ, Foothills Academy).  McGlauchlen added a PR of 124' 6" in the discus and a shot put heave that placed among the top eight.

The Prairie Fire men scored 29 total points for eighth place in the team standings.  The women's squad tallied 16 points and finished seventh overall.

The Prairie Fire track and field teams will compete next at the Midwest Conference championships on Friday and Saturday at Ripon College.
