Clinton, IA – The Prairie Fire track and field teams had a strong showing at the Ashford University Spring Invitational on Saturday.

The Knox men's squad tallied 47 points and finished sixth out of nine teams.  The Knox women scored 18 points for fifth place out of eight teams.

Sophomore Ezekiel Jere (Tema, Ghana, SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International) led the way by placing third out of 21 competitors in the 1500 meter run.  Jere's time of 4:14.45 ranks 10th on the Knox all-time top 10 individual list for the event.  First-year Josh Tvrdy (Tucson, AZ, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) wasn't far behind his teammate in the 1500.  He crossed the finish line fifth in 4:22.39.

Senior Tim Worrell (Wataga, IL, ROWVA) added a fifth place finish in the discus with a throw of 39.53 meters.  He also scored for the Prairie Fire in the hammer throw.

Juniors ShirJia Bielefeld (Weston, WI, DC Everest) and Colleen Shelly (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) earned top five placements for the Knox women's team.  Bielefeld was third in the pole vault with a height of 2.60 meters while Shelly was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:16.69.

Others scoring points for the Prairie Fire women's squad were junior Nicolette Bridgeforth (Chicago, IL, Guerin Prep), sophomore Carolina Goncalves (Chicago, IL, Walter Payton Prep), and senior Nellie Erikson (Mokena, IL, Lincoln-Way East).

Bridgeforth placed in the hammer and the discus, Goncalves in the 400 meter run, and Erikson in the javelin.

Senior Weston Chenoweth (Canton, IL, Canton) and sophomore Brennan McGlauchlen (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley) scored in two events each for the Knox men.  McGlauchlen and Chenoweth placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put.  Chenoweth added a sixth place finish in the javelin and McGlauchlen was eighth in the hammer throw.

Senior Devin Compton (Aurora, IL, West Aurora) also scored for Knox in the shot put while senior Adam Worden (Monee, IL, Crete-Monee) and first-year James Lenihan (Oak Lawn, IL, Oak Lawn) both placed in the javelin along with Chenoweth.

In addition, sophomores Brian Cole (Warson Woods, MO, Webster Groves) and Victor Schultz (Staunton, VA, Robert E Lee) scored in the 5000 meter run and junior Jake Swider-Rogers (Chicago, IL, St. Ignatius) placed in the 110 meter hurdles.  The Prairie Fire men's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams put points on the board as well.

The Knox track and field teams compete next in the Lee Calhoun Invitational at Western Illinois University April 11-12.
