Box Score

GALESBURG, Illinois – Monmouth College used a big second half to pull away and defeat the Prairie Fire 4-0 in a Midwest Conference match on Tuesday at Jorge Prats Field.

It was anyone's game after the teams played to a scoreless draw through the first 45:00.

The Fighting Scots (2-6, 1-1 MWC) broke the stalemate with a goal 53 seconds into the second stanza to take a 1-0 lead.  Monmouth came back with another score in the 49th minute for a 2-0 advantage.

Knox (2-6, 0-2 MWC), meanwhile, had trouble mounting an offensive attack against Monmouth.

The Scots increased their lead to 3-0 on a goal off a corner kick at the 71:58 mark, and then closed out the scoring with a direct kick that found the back of the net 77:44 into the contest.

Monmouth outshot the Prairie Fire 25-2 overall and 12-0 on goal.  Sophomore goalie Theresa Birzer (Fort Dodge, IA, Fort Dodge) had eight saves for Knox.

The Prairie Fire welcome Rockford University to Prats Field for a non-conference contest on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.  The Prairie Fire will try for a second straight victory against the Regents (1-4-1) after winning last year's match 2-1 in Rockford.
