BELOIT, Wisconsin - The Prairie Fire track and field teams competed at the first day of the Midwest Conference (MWC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.
The men's team is currently in sixth place, while the women are in seventh.
Charles Broomfield won the men's discus with a toss of 44.88m. He moves into third on the all-time list at Knox. Broomfield also placed fifth in the hammer (45.45m).
Kendall Ballman placed second in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.71m.
Peyton Balfour placed second in the women's long jump with a vault of 5.02m. She moves to eighth on the all-time list at Knox.
Derrick Jackson qualified for the finals in the 100m (10.55) and 200m (22.03).Â
Tyrell Pierce qualified for the finals in the 200m (22.17) and 400m (48.78).
Trevor Geggie qualified for the finals in the 100m (11.04) and 200m (22.71).
"It was another good day that should set us up for an even better day tomorrow," said head coach Evander Wells. "Charles had another great day throwing. We're showing up when it counts with several PR's and top marks for the day. Day two will go really well if we keep this energy. We also have multiple qualifiers in the 100m and 200m on the men's side, so we should be able to grab some points there and move up the leader board."
The final day of the MWC Outdoor Track Championships is May 14.
