MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Cornell on Saturday afternoon.
Knox scored first in game one as Henry Scholes singled home Nicholas Nitti in the top of the first inning.
The Rams scored two in the second and one in each of the third and fourth innings to take a 4-1 lead. Cornell then erupted for seven unearned runs in the fifth inning to take an 11-1 lead.Â
The Prairie Fire scored three in the sixth after Jason Clark led off with a double and Etienne Thomas drove him in with a home-run. Tyler Kemp later stole home to score the third run of the inning.
The Rams responded with five more runs to coast to a 16-5 victory.
Knox again led early in game two with three runs in the first four innings, but Cornell used a six run inning to take control.
Henry Scholes led the Prairie Fire with four hits on the day. Thomas and Clark added three apiece. Clark had two doubles and Thomas had the homer and a double. Luke Mathieu also knocked a double.
Knox will return to action with a single game on April 28 as they host Cornell for the final game of the series.
