GALESBURG, Ill. — The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their Academic All-District selections for the men's at-large team on Tuesday, and Knox College junior Gabriel Newman was among the honorees. The CSC Academic All-America Men's At-Large program separately recognizes student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III — as well as NAIA, spanning 10 sports, including golf, hockey, lacrosse and wrestling.

An anthropology and sociology major from LaGrange Park, Illinois, Newman competed in all 10 events for the Prairie Fire men's golf team while turning in a solid 77.95 stroke average on the season, including 44 birdies. His best round came in the first fall tournament where he placed third out of 61 entrants at the Fighting Scot Invitational, shooting even par, including a personal-best 3-under 68 in the second and final round. That performance earned him St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week honors.

For a golfer to be eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-District Team, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 and have been in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's team scoring events or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament.
