Golfers Shave 17 Strokes in Final Round of Stateline Shootout

Gabriel Newman had the biggest improvement while Pranav Nandakumar tied for sixth overall

HARRISON, Ohio ­— After turning in a 41-over 329 in the opening round of the Stateline Shootout hosted by Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, the Knox College men's golf team enjoyed a much better final round on Sunday, carding a 24-over 312 to finish the tournament tied for 12th in the 16-team field. Shenandoah University took the team title by shooting the low round on both days, shooting a 15-over 591, 15 strokes ahead of Pitt-Greensburg.

The biggest improvement for the Prairie Fire on the par-72, 6,590-yard Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course came from senior Gabriel Newman, who was 5-over par (77) today, nine strokes better than his first-round showing. The left-hander sank a pair of birdies, including one on his final hole of the day, the par-5, 530-yard ninth, just as he did yesterday, to go with 10 pars. He finished the two rounds in a tie for 57th place in the 89-player field.

Senior Pranav Nandakumar broke into the top 10 on the leaderboard, thanks to his 1-under 71 on Sunday, leaving him with in a tie for sixth with a 147 (+3) for the tournament. His round consisted of five birdies, nine pars and four bogeys, making him one of just three players to shoot under par in the final round.

  • Junior Nathaniel Zug had the most pars for Knox today (12) along with a birdie while carding a 6-over 78.
  • The other golfer to score for the Fire was senior Saransh Raina with an 86 (+14) with one birdie as well.

Knox will next compete in the Central Fall Classic on Oct. 6-7 at the Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella, Iowa.
