Knox College didn't come out on top at Elmhurst College, but the Prairie Fire didn't go down without a fight either.
The Blue Jays defeated Knox 8-1 Thursday night in Elmhurst in a non-conference match. Elmhurst swept the doubles competition.
The closest contest involved the Prairie Fire duo of Dana Pierce '14 (South Barrington, Illinois) and Megan Funk '13 (Springfield, Missouri), which dropped an 8-6 decision against Virginia Dallman and Stephanie Ruff.
The lone point for Knox (1-2) was courtesy of Emily Tyl '13 (Downers Grove, Illinois). Tyl defeated Emily Tarlini 6-1, 4-5, 10-7 for her second singles win of the season.
Knox was scheduled to play two matches on Saturday - against Carroll University and Judson University - but those were called off.
The match against Judson will not be rescheduled this fall. The Knox/Carroll match will be played September 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Beloit, Wisconsin after the Prairie Fire play Beloit that morning at 10:00.
Knox plays again September 12 at 3:00 p.m. against St. Norbert College in Lake Forest, Illinois.
