Knox College's women's tennis team got the 2010-2011 season off to a good start by rolling past the

University of Dubuque Saturday in Waverly, Iowa.
Dana Pierce (South Barrington, Illinois), in her first college match for the Prairie Fire, earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory in singles play against the Spartans' Emma Bridgett.
The remaining five singles match-ups also went Knox's way. Junior Megan Funk (Springfield, Missouri) dominated her opponent
Kristina McWethy, winning 6-1 and 6-3. Fellow junior Jordan Kuban was also a winner. The Greeley, Colorado native took down Rachel Tilkens 6-3, 6-1.

Earning shutout victories as part of their singles matches were junior Rachel Clark (Newton, Iowa) and Emily Tyl. Clark beat the University of Dubuque's Sarah Morgan 6-2, 6-0 while Tyl - a sophomore from Downers Grove, Illinois, defeated Spencer Smith 6-3, 6-0.
Pierce and Funk, Stein and Kuban, along with Tyl and Aimee Neilan (Lake in the Hills, Illinois), posted doubles victories for Knox. The closest match was a 9-7 decision by Neilan and Tyl against McWethy and Smith.
The news wasn't as good for the Prairie Fire against Wartburg College, which hosted the triangular. The Knights beat Knox 9-0 to complete the weekend sweep after defeating Dubuque by the same score earlier in the day.
Wartburg has yet to lose a singles or a doubles match so far this season. The Knights blanked Loras College 9-0 Friday in their season opener, which also was at home.
