Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire ended the fall regular season with a loss to Lake Forest College, the top team in the Midwest Conference South Division.

The Foresters (11-2, 5-0 MWC South) defeated Knox 8-1 on October 6.  The match was moved indoors to Lakeside Recreation Center in Galesburg because of the cold weather.

Lake Forest clinched a spot in the MWC Team Championship on October 12 in Rockford.  Two teams from the south and two from the north divisions play for the conference title.

The Prairie Fire (5-8, 2-3 MWC South) prevented a shutout by LFC when senior Sarah Bolitho (St. Charles, IL, St. Charles East) defeated Emily Rabin 6-3, 6-2 in #5 singles. 

Junior Charlotte Garvin (Omaha, NE, Central) gave the Foresters’ Christi Valicenti all she could handle in their #2 singles match.  Garvin won the first set 6-4 before falling 6-2 and 10-8.

The Prairie Fire will resume play in the Midwest Conference Doubles Championships on October 13 and the Midwest Conference Singles Championships on October 14.  The events will be played at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
