Galesburg, IL - The Prairie Fire played its first match of the spring season on April 5 against visiting Eureka College and posted an 8-1 victory.

Knox won five of the six singles matches against the Red Devils (0-5-1).  Sophomore Charlotte Garvin (Omaha, NE, Central) rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at #2 singles; junior Emily Tyl (Downers Grove, IL, Benet Academy) did not allow a point either in her #3 singles match, and junior Aimee Neilan (Algonquin, IL, Jacobs) downed her opponent 6-4, 6-1 playing #4 singles.

Senior Emiley Brand (Princeton, IL, Princeton) and junior Sam Thomas (Algonquin, IL, Jacobs) were credited with wins by default because Eureka didn’t have opponents for the #5 and #6 singles matches.

The Prairie Fire swept the two doubles contests that were played.  Sophomore Dana Pierce (South Barrington, IL, Barrington) and Garvin won 8-1 at #1 doubles.  Tyl and Neilan teamed up for an 8-2 victory in #2 doubles.  Brand and Thomas won by default in #3 doubles.

Knox continues the spring season with a match at the University of Dubuque on Tuesday.
