Monmouth, IL – The Prairie Fire earned its first win of the season after splitting a pair of matches on Saturday at Monmouth College.

Knox (1-5, 1-1 MWC South) defeated the Fighting Scots (0-5, 1-2 MWC South) 9-0 in the second match of the day.

The Prairie Fire allowed just five points in singles play.  Junior Dana Pierce (South Barrington, IL, Barrington), junior Charlotte Garvin (Omaha, NE, Central), senior Emily Tyl (Downers Grove, IL, Benet Academy), senior Aimee Neilan (Lake in the Hills, IL, Jacobs), senior Sarah Bolitho (St. Charles, IL, St. Charles East), and junior Emiley Brand (Princeton, IL, Princeton) won their matches against Monmouth. 

Pierce and Garvin, Neilan and Tyl, and Bolitho and Brand also swept the doubles competition.

Knox dropped its first match of the day against Central College (5-1) 8-1.

Tyl, playing at #2 singles, defeated Megan Davis for the Prairie Fire’s lone win against the Dutch.

Bolitho took her #4 singles opponent, Amanda Kuhn, to three sets.  Bolitho lost the first set 6-3 before bouncing back to take the second 6-4.  Kuhn earned the victory with a 10-4 score in the third set.

Knox plays its first home matches of the season, both Midwest Conference contests, on September 16 against Grinnell College (2-3, 0-1 MWC South) at 9:00 a.m. and Illinois College (1-3, 0-3 MWC South) at 12:00 p.m.
