Beloit, WI - The Prairie Fire women’s tennis team split a pair of non-conference road matches on Saturday in Wisconsin.
Knox played two Midwest Conference North Division teams. The first opponent was Ripon College (3-7) who the Prairie Fire handled 8-1. Knox played a close match with Beloit College (6-8) which was won by the Buccaneers 5-4.
The only blemish for Knox against the Red Hawks was in #4 singles. Junior Dana Pierce (South Barrington, IL, Barrington), junior Charlotte Garvin (Omaha, NE, Central), senior Emily Tyl (Downers Grove, IL, Benet Academy), senior Sarah Bolitho (St. Charles, IL, St. Charles East), and junior Emiley Brand (Princeton, IL, Princeton) each posted victories in singles play.
Pierce and Garvin won their #1 doubles match 8-2. Tyl and senior Aimee Neilan (Lake in the Hills, IL, Jacobs) held off Ripon in #2 singles 9-7 while Bolitho and Brand won by the same score in #3 singles.
Knox (3-7) won three of the six singles matches against Beloit, but the Bucs took two of three in doubles play to come away with the win.
Garvin (#2 singles), Bolitho (#5 singles), and Brand (#6 singles) each posted victories in singles play. Bolitho and Brand won their #3 doubles match 8-2.
The closest contest of the match was #3 singles, duirng which Tyl went down fighting in a pair of tiebreakers 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4).
Garvin, Bolitho, and Brand each went 2-0 in singles play in the matches while Bolitho and Brand won both of their doubles contests.
The Prairie Fire plays another non-conference match against Millikin College at home on Sunday.
The Big Blue (0-9), a member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), is still seeking its first win of the season.
Knox’s match against Millikin begins at 2:00 at the Merdian Tennis Courts.
