Galesburg, IL – St. Ambrose University edged the Prairie Fire 5-4 in a non-conference match on Monday at the Merdian Tennis courts.
Juniors Charlotte Garvin (Omaha, NE, Central) and Dana Pierce (South Barrington, IL, Barrington) won their singles matches and prevailed in doubles play to account for three of the four Knox wins.
Garvin defeated her #1 singles opponent 6-4, 6-0 to improve to 10-5 overall on the season, including a 3-1 mark in the #1 slot. Pierce cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in #2 singles, her seventh singles win during the 2012-13 campaign.
St. Ambrose downed Knox (6-9) in the #3 through #6 singles matches.
Garvin and Pierce teamed up to upend SAU’s #1 doubles team 8-3. Prairie Fire seniors Emily Tyl (Downers Grove, IL, Benet Academy) and Aimee Neilan (Lake in the Hills, IL, Jacobs) also posted an 8-5 win in #2 doubles, their second straight triumph.
The Bees took the #3 doubles match 8-2.
Knox plays its final spring contest against the University of Dubuque at home on April 18 at 3:30 p.m.
