LAKE FOREST, Illinois – The Prairie Fire lost to surging Lake Forest College 9-0 in Midwest Conference match on Sunday.

The Foresters (10-2, 7-1) have won six straight and are in second place in the league standings behind MWC leader St. Norbert College (10-7, 6-0).

First-year Taytem Chapman (Lincoln, NE, Lincoln East), one day after going up against Abigail Pettett of Carroll University – the top #1 singles player in the MWC with an 11-1 record in the slot – squared off against standout Christi Valicenti of LFC.  Valicenti, a junior, defeated Chapman 6-2, 6-3 for her 10th win playing #1 singles this season.  While it goes down as a loss, the experience of playing an elite singles player at this early stage of Chapman's career is very valuable.

Another match of note was the #3 doubles contest featuring Knox first-year Lauren Sparks (Salem, OR, South Salem) and sophomore Kaly Davidson (Needham, MA, Needham) against the LFC duo of Emily Rabin and Zoe Maurer, who own a 7-3 record in the position.  Sparks and Davidson, who had teamed up in the #3 doubles slot only five times going in and just won for the first time together on Saturday against Beloit, took four games from Rabin and Maurer.

In addition, Chapman and first-year Miranda Corbett (Algonquin, IL, Jacobs) won three games against the Foresters' top doubles team of Valincenti and Lexi Chionis (10-0 record #3 singles), who boosted their doubles record to 7-3.

The Prairie Fire have three matches remaining before the 2014 Midwest Conference Doubles and Singles Championships October 18-19 at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Knox will play the rest of its fall season matches this weekend in Wisconsin.  First up is Lawrence University at 9:00 a.m. and Ripon College at 3:00 p.m., both on Saturday, October 11.  The Prairie Fire's fall season finale is at St. Norbert College at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 12.
