GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire dropped a match to Lawrence 1-8, but bounced back for a 5-4 win over Ripon on Saturday. Knox fell to St. Norbert 0-9 on Sunday to complete the conference season.

The Prairie Fire finished in a tie for eighth place in the conference, the best finish in more than a decade.

Maddie Schacht (Champaign, IL, Mahomet-Seymour) won in both her singles matches on the day and also teamed up with Savannah Sailors (Newton, KS, Newton) to defeat their doubles opponent from Ripon. Sailors and Celina Dietzel (Milwaukee, WI, Cudahy) also won singles matches against Ripon while the team of Melissa Smith (Lemont, IL, Lemont Township) and Maggie St. Clair (Mount Vernon, IA, Mount Vernon) won the other doubles event.

"Maddie won with steady, consistent play," said coach Lawrence Eyre. "She won the Ripon match for us, fighting back from a first set loss to claim victory."
