GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire fell to conference foes Monmouth in their first conference home match of the year.
Knox began strong, winning the first three singles spots, but dropped the final three spots.
Taytem Chapman (Lincoln, NE, Lincoln East) battled to win 2-6, 6-4, 13-11 in the #1 slot, while #2
Emily Miller (St. Louis, MO, Rosati-Kain) and #3
Savannah Sailors (Newton, KS, Newton) won their matches easily.
"We're improving, knocking on the door," said head coach Lawrence Eyre. "Taytem won with patience and variety today."
The Fighting Scots took #1 and #3 doubles to clinch the victory. The #2 doubles team of Sailors and
Melissa Smith (Lemont, IL, Lemont Township) defeated the Scots 8-6.
"Melissa is making tactical progress," added Eyre.The Prairie Fire face off against Carroll and Beloit at home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
