GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire earned a split on Saturday, dropping a 1-8 decision to Judson before defeating Dominican 5-4.
 
Knox (2-11) dominated Dominican in the singles competition winning 4-of-6. Taytem Chapman (Lincoln, NE, Lincoln East) , Savannah Sailors (Newton, KS, Newton) , Miranda Corbett (Algonquin, IL, Jacobs) , and Celina Dietzel (Milwaukee, WI, Cudahy) all defeated their counterparts from Dominican.
 
"Savannah Sailors won the team event for Knox with heady play at #2 singles, cruising in the first set and withstanding a fierce second rally by her opponent to score our fifth point in the last match on the court today," said head coach Lawrence Eyre.
 
Melissa Smith (Lemont, IL, Lemont Township) and Maggie St. Clair (Mount Vernon, IA, Mount Vernon) were the lone pair to win their doubles match.
 
Eyre added, "Maggie St. Clair and Melissa Smith teamed for a decisive win at #3 doubles. Celina Dietzel dominated her #6 singles opponent, while several other players raised their level of play in in singles after slow starts in doubles, with #1 Taytem Chapman and #5 Miranda Corbett earning important team points."
 
Sailors was the only Knox player to win in the Judson match. Sailors and Maddie Schact also nearly won their doubles match, battling back from a 4-7 deficit to lose 6-8.
