Simpson box scoreCentral box scoreINDIANOLA and PELLA, Iowa – Two first-year players earned a pair of wins as the Prairie Fire went on the road to play Simpson College and Central College on Saturday.
The young Knox squad began the day by dropping a 6-3 decision against Simpson.
Emily Miller (St. Louis, MO, Rosati-Kain) and
Savannah Sailors (Newton, KS, Newton) both posted convincing singles victories – Miller at the #2 position and Sailors at #3. Sailors also teamed up with first-year
Maddie Schacht (Champaign, IL, Mahomet-Seymour) for the Prairie Fire's third win of the meet at #3 doubles.
Knox followed at Central College, which posted an 8-1 win. Miller earned her second #2 singles win of the day against the Flying Dutch.
"Hats off to Emily, whose consistency and tenacious court coverage earned her two singles wins on the day," said head coach Lawrence Eyre. "Fellow first-years Savannah Sailors and Maddie Schacht got us on the board with an exciting comeback win against Simpson at #3 doubles, and Savannah won convincingly after moving up to the #3 singles position today. I'm happy to see so many of our first-years contributing to our continuing improvement."
The Prairie Fire play their home opener on September 9 against Augustana College (4:00 p.m.)
