GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's tennis team dropped matches to Central and Simpson on September 3 in their home opener.
Knox (0-3) showed development with a 1-8 loss to Central and a 3-6 loss to Simpson later in the day. "We're improving," said head coach Lawrence Eyre. "We're seeing closer scores and longer rallies during points."
Emily Miller (St. Louis, MO, Rosati-Kain) defeated her opponent from Central in singles 7-5, 6-1 to earn the only point, but
Clare Colt (Oakland, CA, Holy Names) and
Savannah Sailors (Newton, KS, Newton) both played close matches. The doubles team of Miller and Colt also got edged 6-8 by their counterparts in doubles.

Annaliese McDermott (Peoria, IL, Dunlap) each won their singles matched against Simpson. Miller and Sierra Henry also played close matches and two of the doubles matches finished at 6-8.
Knox will look to continue gaining ground when they host Dominican on September 4.
