GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's tennis team split a conference doubleheader on Saturday.
Knox (6-9, 5-4 MWC) lost a 1-8 match to Lake Forest in the morning, but finished strong with an 8-1 victory over Beloit in the afternoon.
Maddie Schacht earned victories in both of her matches on the day. Bhumika Gupta, Emily Miller, Miranda Corbett, and Sierra Henry also won singles matches against Beloit. The doubles teams of Gupta/Corbett, Anna McDermott/Schacht, and Lauren Sparks/Henry also defeated their counterparts from Beloit.
The 5-4 finish in conference is the best record in the current league format. The Midwest Conference split up into divisions until 2014. It's also the first finish above .500 in league play since 2002.
The Prairie Fire will participate in the Midwest Conference Championships on October 14 and 15.
