Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime

POMONA, California—The Prairie Fire women's basketball team fell to Pomona-Pitzer 62-60 in overtime on Wednesday night.

Knox fell behind 6-2 early in the first quarter, but used a 14-3 run to finish out the quarter up 16-9. The Prairie Fire and Sagehens battled back-and-forth in the second period, but Knox was able to maintain their seven-point lead heading into halftime.

Pomona-Pitzer slowly clawed their way back in the third quarter and took a 37-36 lead with 1:55 left in the quarter. The Sagehens took a one-point lead into the final stanza. Knox retook the lead with a 8-3 run to start the fourth quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer hung around. The Prairie Fire led 53-50 with 3:02 to play, but the Sagehens hit a trey to tie the game up and send it to overtime.

Knox struck first in extra time, but Pomona-Pitzer scored four straight points to take a 57-55 lead. The Prairie Fire tied the game up at 57-57 and took a one-point lead with just under a minute to play. The Sagehens hit another three-pointer to take a two-point lead with four seconds left, but Jarrelyn McCall tied the game with one-second to play. After a timeout, Pomona-Pitzer was able to get a successful jumper off to seal the victory.

Morgan Potter led the Prairie Fire with 19 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Kyra Huffman added 11 points and eight rebounds. Karlie Thorn also finished with 10 points and Catessa Duran pulled down 10 boards.

Knox returns to action on December 13 to battle Cal Lutheran as they continue their California trip.
