GALESBURG, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season in a doubleheader split on Saturday.
Knox (1-10) edged Dominican 5-4 in the morning, before falling to Greenville 1-8 in the afternoon.
"I am proud of the women who represented Knox today. Their performance proves that each one of them is improving mentally and physicality," said head coach Meredith Witherell. "We had players earn their first collegiate wins today and players who faced their fears and played above their level. All six of these women should be proud of her on court accomplishments."
Bhumika Gupta, Kathryn Allee, and Mallory Boychuk won their singles matches. Gupta teamed up with Himani Patel to win at #1 doubles. Allee and Boychuk also defeated their doubles matchup in the #2 slot. Gupta also won her #1 singles match against Greenville to stay perfect on the day.
Himani Patel was excited to get the first team win of her young career, saying,"I feel more confident and I can see the improvement over the last few weeks."
Boychuk earned her first career victory and stated, "I felt as if I played on of the best matches I have ever played."
Knox will look to get their first conference victory when they travel to Monmouth on September 25.
