GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire golf teams hosted the final round of the Prairie Fire Fall Invitational on Sunday.
The Knox men's "A team" placed second place after a second round score of 298, tied for the best score of the day with winner Illinois Wesleyan. The men's "B team" placed third after overtaking Illinois Central College with a second round score of 307.
Brendan Wise and Patrick Mattar tied for fifth place overall individually, both carding a 74 on the day for a two day total of 151. Gabe Newman and Shubham Nain tied for ninth place with two day totals of 152. Newman carded a 74 on day two to move into the top-10.
The Prairie Fire women's team had three individuals compete: Hayden Fay, Mariah Barlow, and Paige McCleary.
"That's the way we need to end the fall season on the men's side right there," said head coach KC Harding. "We played neck and neck with a very good Illinois Wesleyan team and a better first round would have given us a chance at first. The 'B team' competed well again, our depth is simply amazing."
The women's team still has one more event as they travel to the SLIAC Tournament on October 8-10.
